What is it that makes All Souls St Gabriels School different to other schools?
OUR SMALL CLASS SIZES
With a teacher student ratio of 1:18 in the Junior School and 1:14 in the Secondary School, All Souls St Gabriels School has very small class sizes. This brings numerous benefits to our students. Teachers can spend more time with each student. Teachers know each student individually. Teachers have less marking, meaning that more time can be spent on lesson preparation. There is also less demand on our facilities which Junior students can easily access. In larger schools the Juniors often miss out.
SPACIOUSNESS OF THE ENVIRONMENT
We have 45 hectares available to our students. Students do not feel hemmed in by buildings and bitumen. The school matches the lifestyle that many of our country boarders are used to. Some students choose to bring their horse and the cattle yards provide reminders of home. And for all students there is that space, space to be alone, to enjoy some peace and quiet to reflect and occasionally escape form the hurly burly of dormitory life.
STAFF WHO GO BEYOND THE 9-3 SYNDROME
Our teaching staff assist our boarders with their prep (homework). They are not uni students filling in, but qualified teachers who can give expert advice.
More than 25 adults, many of whom are teachers, live on the campus, giving our school the feeling of a small community. Our students know their teachers well, and are comfortable in their company. Our staff is a great mix of young teachers and older ones who have made a long term commitment to our school.
FREE AFTER SCHOOL CARE
Our After School Care for Primary age students operates from 3.00 to 5.00pm each afternoon which makes it easy for working parents to be assured that children are safe and sound after school.
LOCATION & SIZE OF THE JUNIOR SCHOOL
Our Junior School is on the same campus as the Senior School, but is quite separate so our Juniors have no problem with older students. Our Pre-school class is right next door to our Year 1 room so it is a very easy transition for our pre-schoolers when they commence Year 1.
SPORTS & RECREATION PROGRAMME
We run a full sporting and recreation programme for all our students. Our programme encompasses activities of all sorts for our boarders and interested day students. One of its main aims is to provide opportunities for the boys and girls to mix in supervised settings.
A NEW SCHOOL
This may seem a strange thing to say about a school with an 80 year history. However, the changes which took place at the beginning of 2000 have ensured that we now have the best of both worlds - a school with rich tradition and history, but a school which is a dynamic, enthusiastic new school striving to establish an even greater reputation. This is not a complacent organisation resting on its laurels, but a vibrant community ready to adapt to a modern world.
A TRULY INDEPENDENT SCHOOL
ASSG is run from Charters Towers, not Brisbane or Townsville and is therefore not dictated to by the demands of other schools or coastal priorities. The governing body is made up mainly of local people with a wide diversity of experience, but who are all committed to the philosophy of providing a first rate educational experience in the country rather than transposing students to large cities.
OUR ETHOS
Although no longer owned by the Anglican Church the school has retained that ethos from our tradition and history. We aim to give our students values to cope with a modern world. Norms, by which to live, rather than rules.
NOT A "BOLT ON" BOARDING SCHOOL
Unlike many other schools where boarding is a declining part of the schools programme, ASSG is a true boarding school. Over the years we have developed a fine reputation for producing self reliant and independent young men and women from our boarding houses.
OUR LOCATION
Charters Towers is a fine location for a school with its great climate, relaxed lifestyle and the safety of a small country town.
Yet even within Charters Towers we have an enviable location. Located on the edge of town we are far enough away from the distractions of the town centre and far enough away from the problems often encountered with intruders at more centrally located institutions. Yet to access the towns facilities it is a short 5 minute trip by vehicle from our quiet relaxed campus well away from the traffic.
