Secondary Teachers

Due to the current and projected enrolment growth, opportunities exist for energetic and
passionate educators with a genuine empathy for young people to join our dedicated team in
the following roles:

SECONDARY MATHEMATICS

(Full or Part Time – immediate start or later in 2020 by negotiation)
The successful applicant will have the ability to teach, or be willing to train for teaching, one
or more Mathematics subject/s in the senior years. A second subject area would be an
advantage but is not a requirement for application.

SECONDARY HOME ECONOMICS / HOSPITALITY TEACHER

(Full or Part Time – Term 3, 2020 start, or earlier by negotiation)
The successful applicant will have the ability to teach, or be willing to train for teaching,
Hospitality in the senior years and Home Economics in junior secondary. Health as a second
teaching area, would be an advantage, but is not a requirement for application.

SECONDARY DESIGN & TECHNOLOGY + MATHS TEACHER

(Full time – Term 1, 2021 start)
The successful applicant will have the ability to teach junior and senior mathematics subjects
and junior manual arts subjects

SECONDARY INDUSTRIAL TECHNOLOGY SKILLS + MUSIC TEACHER

(Full time – Term 1, 2021 start)
The successful applicant will have the ability to teach senior Industrial Technology Skills, junior
secondary manual arts subjects and junior music.

Applicants must be eligible to work in Australia, be a qualified teacher and have Queensland
College of Teachers registration (or be able to obtain registration). The successful candidate
will need to be registered to teach in Queensland at the time of employment.

Applicants should have:

  • excellent knowledge of the QCAA and Australian Curriculum;
  • an understanding of contemporary curriculum issues;
  • an understanding of the learning and pastoral needs of secondary school students;
  • confidence when using ICT;
  • the ability to work in a collaborative environment.

Career opportunities for Middle Management (Positions of Added Responsibility) are a
possibility as our school grows. Payment of relocation expenses and local accommodation
arrangements can be part of the negotiations for successful applicants.

All staff are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school through their participation
in extra-curricular activities.

The school has a student population of approximately 450 students, with a large residential
community of over 220 students, staff and their families who live on campus. A Relocation
Allowance may be available for staff that do not reside locally, and some rental offset
arrangements may be negotiated on a case by case basis.

Lunch is provided in the Dining Hall for staff at no cost.

The City of Charters Towers is an educational hub for northern Australia with three boarding
schools, three State Primary Schools, a State High School and a School of Distance Education.
The education sector is the second highest employer in the City.
