Head of Department – Industrial Design and Technology

This is a full-time permanent position, ideally commencing Term 2, 2019.

A later start may be negotiated with the successful candidate.

Applicants must be eligible for Queensland College of Teachers registration, and the successful candidate will need to be registered to teach in Queensland at the time of employment.

The successful applicant must have the capacity to teach Design and Technology in Years 7-10 and the ability to teach a technology subject in Year 11 and 12, for example, Building and Construction. An interest in developing and supporting Junior School staff in the delivery of technology would be advantageous.

Knowledge of the Australian Curriculum and the ability to develop curriculum offerings seamlessly across the school is essential.

The school is equipped with a large workshop and is a partner school in the Dalrymple Trade Training Centre located in Charters Towers. A range of Vocational courses are offered at the Centre, including Engineering.

The school has received funding and approval to redevelop additional workspaces for both wood and metal and a space to cater for Junior School students in the upper years. In addition, funding has been approved to develop MakerSpaces for both Senior School and Junior School incorporating 3D printing, laser cutting and milling. An interest in being involved in a collaborative team to drive this project forward would be desirable.

All staff are expected to contribute to the wider life of the school through their participation in extra-curricular activities.

The school has a student population of approximately 415 students, with a large residential community of over 200 students, staff and their families who live on campus. Whilst residential life does not suit everyone, rental accommodation may be available for staff on campus. Rental assistance is provided to staff over the Christmas break.

Lunch is provided in the Dining Hall for staff at no cost.

The City of Charters Towers is an educational hub for northern Australia with three boarding schools, three State Primary Schools, a State High School and a School of Distance Education. The education sector is the second highest employer in the City.
